Community Involvement at Orbost Primary School

Orbost Primary School is a community within a community and we pride ourselves on the capacity to be positively engaged in community activities as often as possible.

Our locality close to town facilitates our capacity to get out and about and be actively involved in community events.

Exemplary examples of this include our participation in the local art exhibitions on a yearly  basis and the participation of our grade six students in Junior Rotary.

 Parents Club

We have a very active Parents Club who meet on a monthly basis and contribute positively to the school by:

• Contributing to the well being of the school community

• Encouraging participation of all parents in the life of the school and the education of their children

• Providing opportunities for all parents of students of the school to discuss issues concerned with the    welfare and the general education policy of the school and to assist in the development of a shared    parent view

• Contributing to proposals on school policy and other educational issues to the school council

• Providing opportunities for parents to get to know each other and to be informed about their child’s    school

• Providing information for parents to extend their understanding of school issues

• Working in cooperation with the school council and the principal to raise funds for the benefit of the    school

School Council meets at least 8 times a year and is a vital link between parents and the  school.

Role of School Council is to:

• Establish the broad direction and vision of the school within the school’s community

• Develop and monitor the school strategic plan

• Develop, review and update school policies

• Develop, review and monitor the Student Code of Conduct and the School Dress Code

• Support the raising of funds for school related purposes

• Approve the annual budget and monitor expenditure

• Ensure the school grounds and facilities are maintained

• Approve contractual agreements (eg cleaning, construction work)

• Approve the annual report to the school community and to DEECD

• Stimulate interest in the school generally

• Consider and decide on sub-committee recommendations
